Abstract

Learning is influenced and shaped by the context and culture. One of the models of culture, suggested by Schein, considers culture as an integral entity of interdependent elements, technology being one of them. Development of each element inevitably changes the entity itself, therefore development of technology has an impact on culture. The socio-cultural system of e-learning is centered around information culture, where knowledge production and social interaction are being accomplished using information and communication technologies (ICT). Success of e-learning largely depends on the quality of ICT used and students' attitude towards them. This paper is about changes inside e-learning socio-cultural system during ICT shift from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0, enabling advanced communication and collaboration in virtual environment, and gradually becoming the basis for e-learning processes and systems. Analysis of scientific literature on culture theory is accomplished. Position and meaning of Web 2.0 technologies in e-learning socio-cultural system is shown. Research results are presented, showing how students relate their Web 2.0 experience to learning.
