New approaches to learning and assesment: a path towards higher standards in ESP

Raising standards of learning that are achieved from teaching has become a priority in higher education. The purpose of this investigation was to explore methods of learning and assessment and students’ perceptions of and satisfaction with, the assessment environment learning ESP at Vilnius University and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. The major findings of this study include: in ESP courses both traditional and innovative methods are used; there exist multiple correlations among variables including a correlation among methods of cooperative learning, ESP terms-in-use tasks and academic writing; and a correlation between feedback on student performance and student reflection.
