Perspectives and opportunities of integration of information problem solving model in ESP context

Abstract

Education is facing great challenges in modem society. Information literacy and instruction of information problem solving skills are seen as one of the key strategies in preparing students for lifelong learning. Analysis of EU and Lithuanian documents on education focusing on the importance of key competencies instruction in the context of lifelong learning is presented. One of the essential competencies under1ying lifelong learning is learning to learn competence, identified as a set of cognitive skills, necessary in all levels of learning and knowledge acquisition. The article presents information literacy concept and its interpretations a10ng with psychologica1 and cognitive aspects of information literacy skills. Theoretica1 analysis of information problem solving models justifies the necessary of integration of intonation problem solving skills into ESP classes. The structured model of information problem solving process in ESP classes enhances students’ autonomy and motivates them to think critically. Advantages and necessity of information problem solving mode! is emphasized by presenting comparative analysis with the traditional teaching/learning model.
